Test your microphone online
Press Test my microphone, click Allow when your browser asks, then speak. If the volume bar moves and the waveform reacts, your mic works. Nothing is recorded or uploaded — the audio is processed locally and thrown away the moment you stop.
How to test your microphone (3 steps)
- Click Test my microphone above.
- Click Allow in the browser permission popup.
- Speak normally and watch the green-to-red volume bar and the waveform respond.
Microphone not working? Full troubleshooting
Quick checks (try these first)
- Check the mic is plugged in firmly and not muted (look for a physical mute switch on headsets).
- If you denied permission, click the mic icon in the address bar, choose Allow, and reload.
- Select the correct input from the dropdown that appears once a mic is detected.
- Close other apps (Zoom, Teams, Discord, OBS) that may be holding exclusive access to the mic.
- Try another USB port or, for a headset jack, reseat the connector fully.
Fix a microphone on Windows 10 / 11
- Settings → System → Sound → Input: pick the correct device and speak — the input level meter should move.
- Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone: turn on Microphone access and allow your browser.
- Right-click the speaker icon → Sound settings → More sound settings → Recording: set your mic as Default and check it is enabled (right-click empty space → Show Disabled Devices).
- Update or reinstall the audio driver in Device Manager → Audio inputs and outputs.
Fix a microphone on macOS
- System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone: enable the toggle for your browser, then fully quit and reopen it.
- System Settings → Sound → Input: select the right device and check the input level moves as you speak.
- If using an external interface, confirm it is the selected input and not muted in its own software.
App-specific fixes
If the mic works here but fails in an app, the device choice inside that app is wrong. Step-by-step: Discord mic not working · Zoom microphone not working · Teams microphone not working.
FAQ
Is my audio recorded or uploaded?
No. Everything is processed locally in your browser. Nothing is recorded, stored or uploaded.
Do I need to install anything?
No download or signup. It does need HTTPS, which this site uses.
Why is the volume bar not moving?
Either permission was denied, the wrong input device is selected, or the mic is muted. Work through the quick checks above.
