Test your speakers online
Click Left and you should hear a tone only from the left speaker; click Right for the right; Both plays through both channels. This confirms your speakers or headphones are connected, working and wired the right way round in stereo.
Check left and right channels
If a tone plays from the wrong side, your left/right cables or earbuds are swapped. If you only ever hear one side, see the mono fix below.
No sound? Troubleshooting
If the sound test failed completely
- Check the speakers are powered on and the cable is fully seated in the correct (green / headphone) jack.
- Raise the system volume and make sure the app/tab is not muted (check the OS volume mixer).
- Pick the right output device — Windows: speaker icon → output picker; macOS: System Settings → Sound → Output.
If you only hear one channel
The other speaker may be unplugged or the balance is set hard to one side. Windows: Sound settings → device Properties → Levels → Balance. macOS: System Settings → Sound → Output → set Balance to centre.
If everything still fails
Reinstall or update your audio driver from your sound card / motherboard manufacturer (Realtek, Creative, Focusrite, etc.), then reboot and retest.
FAQ
Is anything recorded?
No. The tones are generated in your browser; this test never accesses your microphone and uploads nothing.
I hear the tone but it's quiet
The test tone is intentionally moderate to protect your hearing. Raise your system volume if needed.
