Webcam not working? Troubleshooting
Quick checks
- Remove any physical privacy shutter or tape over the lens.
- If permission was denied, click the camera icon in the address bar, allow it, and reload.
- Close other apps (Zoom, Teams, Skype, OBS) that may be using the camera — most cameras allow only one app at a time.
- Pick the right camera from the dropdown if you have more than one.
Fix a webcam on Windows 10 / 11
- Settings → Privacy & security → Camera: turn on camera access and allow your browser.
- Device Manager → Cameras: if there is a warning icon, update or reinstall the driver.
- Check no antivirus / privacy tool is blocking the camera.
Fix a webcam on macOS
- System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera: enable your browser, then quit and reopen it.
- If the camera is still black, restart the Mac to clear a stuck camera process held by another app.
FAQ
Is my video or photo uploaded?
No. The preview and any snapshot are handled entirely in your browser and never leave your device.
What do resolution and fps mean?
Resolution is the number of pixels (e.g. 1280×720). Frame rate (fps) is how many images per second the camera sends — higher is smoother.
Why does the camera show black?
Another app is usually holding it. Close other video apps and reload this page.
