1. Who we are
Mic & Cam Test ("we", "us", "the site") operates the website micandcamtest.com, a free collection of in-browser hardware tests. For any privacy question you can reach us via our contact page.
2. Microphone, camera and other hardware tests — zero recording
This is the core of our privacy commitment, and it is worth stating plainly:
- Nothing is recorded. When you run the microphone or webcam test, your browser asks your permission to access the device. Once you allow it, the live stream is processed only in your browser's memory.
- Nothing is uploaded. No audio, video, photo or waveform is ever transmitted to us or to any third party. There is no upload endpoint. You can confirm this in your browser's Network tab — no media is sent.
- Nothing is stored. We do not save recordings, snapshots or device fingerprints. Any webcam snapshot you choose to take exists only in your browser tab and disappears when you close or reload the page.
- You stay in control. The test cannot access your microphone or camera until you explicitly click "Allow" in your browser. Pressing Stop or closing the tab releases the device immediately.
- Speaker, keyboard and mouse tests require no microphone or camera access at all — they only read tones generated locally and key/click events inside this page.
3. Information we do collect
Because the hardware tests are local, the only data involved is standard website analytics and the data handled by our advertising partner:
- Server / log data: like most websites, our host may record standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, referring page and timestamps for security and abuse prevention.
- Analytics: we may use privacy-respecting analytics to count visits and understand which pages are useful. This does not involve your microphone or camera in any way.
- Cookies and local storage: we store a small flag in your browser's
localStorageto remember that you accepted the cookie notice, so we do not show it again.
4. Cookies
Cookies (and similar technologies such as localStorage) are small data files placed on your device. We use them for two purposes:
- Essential / functional: remembering that you dismissed the cookie banner.
- Advertising and analytics: our advertising partner (see below) may set cookies to show and measure ads.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the hardware tests will continue to work.
5. Google AdSense and third-party advertising
This site is free and is funded by advertising. We use Google AdSense and may use other third-party advertising vendors to serve ads.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of a third party's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
- For more on how Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps, see Google's policy.
Advertising partners receive only standard ad-serving data (such as IP address and cookie identifiers). They never receive your microphone audio or camera video — that data never leaves your browser.
6. Your rights under GDPR (EU/EEA/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Where we rely on consent (for non-essential cookies and personalised ads), you may withdraw it at any time by clearing cookies and using the opt-out links above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Your rights under CCPA (California)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell your personal information for money. To opt out of interest-based advertising, use the aboutads.info/choices and Google Ads Settings links above, or contact us via the contact page.
8. Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. Data retention and security
Because microphone and camera data is never transmitted, there is nothing for us to retain or secure on that front. Standard server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and then routinely deleted. The site is served over HTTPS.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
